The restaurant prides itself on serving delicious meals, ranging from fried chicken to peanut soup, with 1950s flair. </xhtml:p>
        <xhtml:p>
Southern Kitchen has an upstairs dining room, lunch counter, and downstairs banquet room. It can seat over 150 people and is regularly filled with locals and visitors looking for a good meal. The social atmosphere facilitates gatherings of individuals who share stories, memories, and gossip on a regular basis.</xhtml:p>
        <xhtml:p>
This institution was originally a family affair. The founders, Lloyd and Ruby Newland operated the restaurant for several decades. In 2005 they sold it to their son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Rebecca Newland who operated Southern Kitchen until 2019 when it was sold to Jimmy Shifflett. </xhtml:p>
