Joseph W. Gochenour Distillery

In 1905, Joseph W. Gochenour of Fort Valley, Virginia, advertised in the Shenandoah Herald that he was selling his distillery. He described the operation as having "two good copper stills, caps, and worms, capacity 105 and 110 gallons, about 85 fermenting tubs; tight barrels and kegs, a good apple mill and trough, screw cider press, about 80 tons of pressure and horse power, etc." This indicated that Gochenour distilled apples to become cider as well as the more popular process of distilling corn to become whiskey. Where this distillery was located is unknown.
